:: Destination Overview ::

Port Blair is the largest town and a municipal council in Andaman district in the Andaman Islands and the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a union territory of India. As the Indian freedom movement continued to grow in the late 19th Century, an enormous Cellular Jail was constructed between 1896 and 1906 to house Indian convicts, mostly political prisoners, in solitary confinement. The Cellular Jail is also known as Kala Pani (translated as "Black Waters"), a name given to it due to the torture and general ill-treatment towards its Indian convicts.

Foreign charter flights are also permitted to land at Port Blair subject to the fulfilment of guidelines of the Director General of Civil Aviation.

All flights from Kolkata, Bhubaneswar & Chennai are direct flights and takes around 2 hours .Flights from Delhi fly via Chennai or Kolkata and take around 5 hours.








  • Ross Island (British Power & Capital of these Islands, is located 2 km boat ride off Port Blair)
  • Small museum named ‘SMRITIKA’ it holds photographs & other antiques of the Britisher relevant to this island.
  • Cellular Jail (Light & Sound show – has a pride of place in India’s freedom struggle. Many stalwart were imprisioned here. Declared a national memorial, this three story prison constructed by Britishers in 1906, is a pilgrimage destination for freedom fighters. This colossal edifice has mutely witnessed the most treacherous of inhuman atrocities borne by the convicts, who were mostly freedom fighters.)

Timings: 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM to 5.00 PM (Monday and National Holidays closed). Light & Sound show timings: 6 pm (Hindi) and 7.15 pm (English)

  • Anthropological Museum (Anthropological Museum is maintained and managed by ASI, Anthropological Survey of India, It is an exquisite small museum showcasing wide collection of tools and weapons used by Anadamanese tribes. This also encloses many photographs of different tribes and aborigines of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.)

Timings: 8.30 AM to 1.00 PM, 1.30 PM to 4.30 PM. It is closed on Thursdays & Govt. Holidays.

  • Corbyns Cove Beach (Corbyn's Cove is a serene and unspoiled soft sandy beach in Andaman near to Port Blair. This is an ideal spot for sun basking and sea bathing. The main attractions in this beach are the inviting water sports activities. This beach and the water closed to the beach are perfect location for surfing, scuba diving and boating.)
  • Chatham Saw Mill 

Timings: 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM to 5.00 PM (Monday and National Holidays closed). Light & Sound show timings: 6 pm (Hindi) and 7.15 pm (English)

  • Forest Museum (Forest Museum at Chatham is part of what used to be a saw mill set up by the British in 1836. The Forest museum gives a bit of information about Forests around the area and history of Andamans.)

Timings: 9 am to 12 noon, 2 pm to 5 pm (Closed on Mondays & Public Holidays).

  • Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park (Wandoor) - Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, also known as Wandoor Marine National Park, is a popular tourist attraction in Andaman. This is one of the world’s best known scuba diving location in Andaman. One can get a close look of underwater marine life in the beaches of this National Park, including corals and sea weeds. 

Note: Entry permit (issued by the Forest Department) is required to enter the Park. Facility available between 8.30 am to 11.00 am and 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm, (Sunday closed). Boat to be taken from Wandoor jetty for Jolly Buoy and Red Skin Islands . Tourists are only allowed to spend 2 ½ hours in both these islands (closed on Mondays).

  • Fisheries Museum – Science Centre (A must see place while visiting Andaman & Nicobar Islands is the Science Centre. Located at Goodwill Estate, Corbyn’s Cove Road in Port Blair, this science centre reveals the science behind the functioning of Oceans, the maturation of Corals and behavior of fish with the climatic changes. The Centre itself is the integration of the aspects of Geography and Science. At this centre, visitors can gain knowledge on science of oceans while creating waves of different parameters and exploring their features.)

Timings: 10 am to 5.30 pm on all days except Wednesdays.

  • Water Sports Complex (This sports complex offers all kinds of water sports facilities for comfortable, safe and enjoyable experiences. Sail boats, Para sailing, water scooters, rowing boats, kayaks, paddle boats, and water skiing facilities are available in plenty here in this complex. Boating up to Ross Islands from this complex is an exciting experience. A marvellous monument, built to honour the historical fight Battle of Aberdeen, add to the beauty of this region. There is an artificial waterfall as well, which is a great attraction among the visitors.)
  • Chidiya Tapu (Chidiya Tapu Biological Park lies at about 20 kms from Port Blair in South Andaman. The park is where bird watchers and Butterfly watchers would head for. Chidiya Tapu is also renowned for its sunset point and therefore a popular point where tourists converge in evenings.)
  • Jolly Buoy Island (Jolly Buoy can be easily accessed by boats from Wandoor, which is 30 km from Port Blair. It will take around one hour to reach the island from Wandoor. Due to the fragile ecosystems, the use of plastic is restricted in Jolly Buoy.)
